I recently became enamored with the elegant glass vases by Tucker Glass and Design I started noticing on my Instagram feed this past spring. Small enough to hold in one hand yet bold enough to style as a statement piece, the Optic Posey Bud Vase is as beautiful as the story behind the design.

I was fortunate to sit down with Scott Tucker, founder and glassblower of Tucker Glass and Design, to chat about his craft, what inspires him to make stunning glass pieces, and what’s ahead. I’m so excited to share this behind the scenes look into Tucker Glass and Design with you!

A native of Vermont who now resides in Columbus, Ohio, Scott Tucker has more than three decades of experience making one-of-a-kind hand blown glass pieces. Much of his inspiration comes from his tenure at New England’s Simon Pearce where he created signature handcrafted glass for 24 years beginning when he was 19 years old as one of only eight glassblowers. Followed by a post as glassblower at Farmhouse Pottery in Vermont, Tucker moved to Columbus in 2018 to be closer to his daughter and open up his own shop and focus on building a business.

“I don’t consider myself an artist, but more of a craftsman. Blowing glass is my passion. I am driven to be successful with designs under my own name.”

What’s so impressive about glassblowing are the elements the glassblower is exposed to during the process. In his shop, Tucker melts glass in a heated furnace at 2100°, keeping the shop running continuously at a room temperature around 95°. From molding the piece to cooling for several hours, the entire process can take up to 10 hours for a finished product. This dedicated course results in Tucker’s unique variety of handcrafted vases, wine glasses and candle holders.

“I love the simplicity in my designs. I love clear, organic, and natural glass that captures any kind of light.”

Each item is entirely handmade and in small batches, therefore offering exclusive inventory. Mostly, his focus is on a few select items that have proven themselves as signature pieces from his creative vault (pictured below). A few personal favorites are the Optic Posey Bud Vase, Campfire Crackle Votive Holder, and Optic Wine Glasses. I am so drawn to these pieces because they elevate the simplest of moments, from relaxing by candlelight to sipping a nice glass of rosé or leveling up a picnic spread at the beach. It’s the little details that make everyday living so beautiful, and Tucker’s designs have truly elevated corners in my home and day-to-day living.

“I envision my pieces in a home that is rustic yet modern. I’m inspired by a modern farmhouse type of style, but most of all by people who care about small batch, high-end products made by hand with purpose.”

In light of the overwhelming positive interest in his glass vases, Tucker will be launching new sizes for the Optic Posey Bud Vase in fall 2021 in both six and eight inch widths to accommodate larger flower arrangements. I can only imagine how beautiful they’ll be when they begin to grace the tables of impeccable homes shared around the web!

*A huge thank you to Scott Tucker of Tucker Glass and Design for partnering on this blog post.
