Garden Patio Inspiration

It’s official — I’m a SoCal gal now! Last November Alex and I packed up our life from our beautiful San Francisco apartment and road tripped down to our new home, San Diego! After nearly a decade in the City by the Bay, we decided it was time for a new adventure, different scene, and a place to make new memories together. After almost three months in our little seaside town, we still cannot believe we get to call the beautiful sunny coast of Cardiff-By-The-Sea our home.

That said! What our apartments always lacked in San Francisco was an outdoor space. I’ve always dreamed of having a breezy outdoor living space to drink wine with friends, lay in the sun with a good book, and try my hand at gardening. Well, that time has come! Our new abode has the most gorgeous, albeit conservative, outdoor patio space that opens from sliding glass doors leading from our kitchen. Nestled between annual flowering rose bushes and a small grassy knoll framed by a hedge overlooking natural space, we have an exciting blank canvas to play with. I want this space to be easy, inviting, and calming with a touch of boho vintage style — and be an extension from our kitchen dining area that flows naturally to make use of both spaces together.

We originally bought these outdoor rattan chairs for our last apartment dining space for two, with the idea that we would eventually us them for an outdoor space. Pleased to say they work perfectly! We found this nearly perfect matching outdoor coffee table (on sale here!). Both the chairs and table were left outside during some of the wild winter rainstorms we’ve been having in California and I’m happy to say they are very weather proof and have held up without any issues so far. I’ve always admired classic white umbrellas in thoughtfully-curated outdoor spaces - they bring a casual yet elevated feel and play double duty as decor and shade. They can be quite expensive; however, after some digging, I was pleasantly surprised to find this elegant yet affordable umbrella, which plays triple duty since it can be utilized as a a beach umbrella (it comes with the screw-in-the-sand attachments, and a nice duffel bag for easy transport). Such a good find! Patio umbrellas typically don’t come with their own stands, but we found this heavy duty white stand from Amazon which works perfectly.

Up next, transplanting our new Camellia and Gardenia plants into pots and finding more accoutrements to turn this space into our airy oasis. Spring can’t come soon enough!

xoxo,

Jamie
