Fall Foliage at Wylder Hope Valley

A few weeks back Alex and I stayed at Wylder Hope Valley and let me tell you, this place was magical in every possible way! I’ve visited the Sierra Nevadas more than I can count, but hadn’t heard of Wylder Hope Valley until recently. The property used to be Sorenson’s Resort for decades and a couple years ago it was completely reimagined and renamed Wylder Hope Valley as part of Wylder Hotels. Even under new ownership, this property is teeming with history and built-in feel good vibes. It almost feels like an adult summer camp because you have literally everything you need in one place, not to mention cozy and modern digs amid the backdrop of Eastern Sierras, and the staff are just the friendliest.

We visited in early autumn just as the leaves were beginning to change. For years I’ve been saying how fall is such an underrated time to visit the Lake Tahoe area, and I stand firmly behind that statement. Hope Valley is home to thousands of quaking aspen trees that grow in the valley and line the highway. As we were pulling in to Wylder, we were greeted by bright golden and crimson leaves all around us — it was some of the most gorgeous fall foliage I’ve ever witnessed in California! Quaking aspens grow all around the property, too, and it’s truly a sight to behold in the fall.

Let’s start with the guest quarters in recently renovated cabins. I was swooning over the design — a mix of Scandinavian-inspired furnishings with a natural color palette and materials made it feel like we were staying in a good friend’s home. When we woke on our first morning, it felt like we were on holiday during the holidays. It doesn’t get much cozier than that. There are about 30 different cabins across the property, as well as luxury yurts (with skylights for stargazing!) and each one is special in its own way.

A walking path meanders through the property, with all paths leading to Sorenson’s Cafe serving the heartiest and most delicious food and drinks. Strolling around the property was one of our favorite parts of being there — there’s live music, fire pits, and even hiking trails right from the center of camp. Across over a hundred acres with the Carson River running right through, there is really so much to explore.

Our visit to Wylder Hope Valley was breath of fresh air and a much needed escape. I can only imagine how beautiful it is during winter, spring and summer!

xoxo, Jamie
