On the Shores of Lake Minnetonka, MN

In July Alex and I traveled to Minnesota for the wedding of our dear friends, and when we checked into our hotel we found ourselves on the beautiful shores of Lake Minnetonka in the town of Wayzata, just outside Minneapolis. Between the jovial celebrations and a bit of down time we had the most fun livin’ the summer life on the lake for a few days.

The landscape blew us away; everything was so lush and GREEN. We stayed at the Hotel Landing, just steps from the downtown boating dock surrounded by boutique shops and restaurants. I can’t share enough wonderful sentiments about this hotel — from the excellent service and chic lobby bar to the large comfy beds and oversized luxurious bathrooms. We even loved the pillows on our guest bed so much we bought them to upgrade our own at home (the brand is Standard Textile and their pillows are in luxury hotels around the world!).

In addition to wedding festivities, we set aside some time to explore the town on bicycles provided by Hotel Landing. I always look for bicycle rentals when booking a hotel near nature; I love the adventure of exploring a new place on wheels! There are endless opportunities to discover Wayzata with dozens of paved and dirt bike trails around the town. We took the Luce Line State Trail to our midway point at Birches on the Lake, a brewhouse and supperclub about twenty minutes away on bikes with waterfront views of another small lake in the area, Long Lake. After a craft beer each, we hopped back on the bikes and headed back downtown on tree-lined trails alongside golf courses, and eventually lakeside back to Hotel Landing. We felt like we were living in a movie!

A stay shoreside isn’t complete without a day or two spent on the water, and we were fortunate to spend two afternoons boating on Lake Minnetonka soaking up the sun and eyeing all of the gorgeous lakefront mansions (personal docks included, of course). The day after the wedding a few dozen guests rented several boats and we anchored together in shallow waters by an island in the middle of the lake - it’s a *go-to* for regulars on the lake and was the perfect way to end the celebrations!

A few iPhone photos from the weekend — so thankful for these very happy memories!
