Our Kauai Wedding 9.21.19

Today I’m detailing some of the special moments from our wedding in September 2019.

I never imagined in a million years we would have a destination wedding in Kauai. I always dreamed of tying the knot somewhere in California. All those plans changed after Alex and I visited Kauai on our first trip together and had the island getaway of a lifetime. It wasn’t until we were planning our wedding that we kept thinking back to Kauai and decided to go for it. Sometimes you just have to follow your heart!

Just over a year later, we were saying our vows alongside the Hanalei Mountains on a gorgeous property called Princeville Ranch with our friends and family. We booked a beautiful rental house in Princeville overlooking the ocean where we held a welcome party to begin the weekend’s festivities and where our friends and family could gather in between events. It’s also where the wedding party got ready together the morning of the wedding. It was so special for all the bridesmaids, groomsmen and our family to be getting ready and sharing in excitement under the same roof! So much love and laughter was floating in the air, the energy was warm and supportive, and the whole day ended up being everything we could have dreamed up and more.

I planned our destination wedding without seeing the venue or meeting the vendors in person. The beauty of having a wedding on the small island of Kauai is all my vendors knew one another already. They work together all the time so the planning and coordination process, along with the help and direction of my all-star wedding coordinator Mona Garcia of Aloha Fridays, was incredibly streamlined. The main consideration was choosing a date that aligned with the limited availability of the few vendors on island. We chose September 21, 2019. The first day of fall and the International Day of Peace.

The event design was a simple “tropical boho” theme, weaving in the natural environment as much as possible without adding too many unnatural materials. We chose an indoor/outdoor venue that provided open air cover for the very likely chance of rain but allowed us to be immersed in the surrounding scenery of the preserved ranch and mountain backdrop. Even though it rained on and off throughout the day (they say rain on your wedding day is good luck, right?) our schedule of events aligned with the sunshine perfectly, and we were fortunate to experience a magical atmosphere of warm-weathered showers followed by rainbows and dancing the night away under the Kauai sky. It could not have been more enchanting!

The first look and reading our vows during the ceremony were two of my favorite moments. The setting was perfect for soaking up these intimate moments and being completely present. I loved our photographer, Julia Kathleen Photography, who guided us throughout the photoshoot process seamlessly. When we look back at our photos, the sincere joy from the day truly radiates from every picture. Our wedding was a dream come true and I’m so happy to share the photos with you!

More to come on the weekend details!

xo, Jamie

p.s. - Alex and I love Kauai so much, we’ve brought its beauty into our home. I was looking for a way to incorporate a common theme after hanging our wedding photos and we chose a landscape photo our wedding photographer took of the Na Pali coastline. We ordered it from her website which you can find here .
